Living in LLandudno, Cape Town for ten years and watching the Argus Cycle race yearly, as our road was closed all day from 6am to 6pm. We would walk up the hill to the top and watch the cyclists come over suikerbossie, which is the worst uphill of the 100 kilometer race, was the inspiration for this large artwork. The spinning wheels, helmet and water bottle most prominent items seen as the racers raced past. So many cyclists, colours and cycle’s going past seeing the relief as they reach the top of the worst and the last hill before reaching the end. The smiles and relief of knowing that from hereon it’s downhill.
